Home Whitening Systems Could Leave Your Teeth Damaged

Posted on 7/5/2021 by Singing River Dentistry Madison
Home Whitening Systems Could Leave Your Teeth DamagedEvery person understands the attraction of white teeth. White teeth are a status symbol, they help us get jobs and dates, and they show strangers that we are in control of our life. But, all of that is the social context of white teeth. This is possibly why there have been an influx of home whitening products in the last few years. Just like going to college was a necessary for an entire generation, white teeth are also being touted as being necessary at all costs. However, some of the home solutions can result in further damaged teeth, and the same or a darker shade from you had before.

At Home Whitening

There are a lot of products available to the person looking to whiten their teeth without coming into see us. These products usually contain bleach, trays, gels, strips, or some combination of fruity/citrusy pulps. There are also a lot of arguments in their support saying that the whitening process 'whitens your enamel' and doesn't hurt it. This, as a fact may be somewhat true—however, the overall health of your teeth and mouth become greatly damaged from some of these techniques. Usually, you can tell there has been damage by tooth sensitivity, gum irritation, increased cavities, or generalized oral discomfort.

This is because the methods that are used to bleach your teeth are also affecting the outside and inside of your teeth. For example, if there are micro fissures on the surface of your teeth because you have a love of biting on hard candies—then whitening your teeth will most often cause some great discomfort. Further, a lot of these at home solutions have your teeth brushed prior to applying them. This is an issue because brushing your teeth removes their natural protection, opening them up for sensitivity and pain.
