Dental Implants
Madison, AL

Very few people are lucky enough to be born with healthy teeth that are the perfect size and straightness. Many people need supportive cosmetic care to achieve their ideal smile. Some can achieve this by getting a dental bridge or dental veneers.

If you have lost a tooth, were born without a specific tooth, or just do not want to wear dentures or even partial dentures, dental implants may be a treatment option.

Our professionals at Singing River Dentistry use dental implants to improve the look and feel of your smile. Our dentists at our office in Madison, AL can help you determine if this option is right for you.

You can also visit our FAQ page about dental implants for more information.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a surgical alternative to removable dentures when replacing missing teeth.

Using a small post made of titanium, we will replace either individual or multiple tooth roots to build a stronger foundation below your teeth for permanent replacement teeth.

The purpose of dental implants is to function like your natural teeth, rather than use a removable set of teeth that may slide and move throughout the day.

Replace Single or Multiple Teeth

When many patients hear the words "dental implants," they immediately think of whole mouth replacement procedures. However, this is far from the case. Dental implants are not only a great alternative to traditional dentures, but they can also be used to replace just one tooth.

Single Tooth Implants

Single tooth implants are one of the many great dental implant procedures offered by our professionals at Singing River Dentistry.

This style of restoration is extremely long-lasting and can blend seamlessly with your existing smile. Filling the void left by a missing or damaged tooth and completing your smile will provide you with an immediate confidence boost.

Single tooth implants are a restoration option used when milder treatment options are not practical. For example, a crown is often used to cap and protect a severely damaged tooth that still has its roots intact. When the tooth's roots are damaged and beyond repair, it will need to be extracted.

After your tooth is extracted, our team can provide you with a single tooth implant.

Multiple Tooth Implants

If you are missing several, or all of your teeth, we can also help.

While traditional dentures have their share of benefits and are a good option for some patients, multiple tooth implants set themselves apart in several key ways.

First, they are a fixed restoration, which means that you will not have to hassle with glues or gels to hold them in a place like those required with some dentures.

In addition, multiple tooth implants offer protection for your jawbone and gum line that is not provided by traditional dentures. When you lose teeth prematurely, your bone begins to lose density and is resorbed by your body.

Your gums are also at risk for recession, which can also begin to affect your remaining teeth. The posts used to place your dental implants work to stop these processes by filling the void left by the roots of your missing teeth.

All on 4 Dental Implants

All on 4 dental implants offer patients the ability to replace all of their missing teeth during one procedure. We can discuss your general health and oral health with you when you call or come into our Madison office and help you determine if you are a suitable candidate for All on 4.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

The benefits of dental implants include their natural look and feel, ease with talking and eating, and even health benefits for your jaw and existing teeth.

Dental implants look and feel like your natural teeth.

While many complain of the speech and eating problems they endure while using removable dentures, dental implants don't have that same problem since the entire tooth is secured.

There is no shifting or moving while they are in place because they are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth.

Additionally, nearby teeth are not changed or impacted with this implant, leaving more of your natural smile intact.

The natural look of dental implants also brings confidence back to your smile if you have had missing or severely cracked and damaged teeth.

How Are Dental Implants Placed?

A dental implant process has several stages: it begins with an exam, then a customized implant is made and placed in your jawbone, and finally a fitted dental crown finishes the work.

Once our dentists thoroughly examine your mouth for the health of the surrounding gums and teeth, they will create a custom treatment plan based on your teeth and bite.

This treatment plan will include an impression of your teeth and bite and the best color match to the surrounding teeth.

A post made of titanium will be fused to the jawbone beneath your gums and placed into the socket of your missing tooth.

Once the titanium post has bonded with your jawbone, our dentists will then place an abutment, or a small connector post, which will hold the new tooth.

Then, once the abutment is placed, a custom made dental crown, a replacement tooth made from the impression of your mouth, is used to finish the entire process.

How Do You Care for Dental Implants?

The best thing about dental implants is they are designed to look and feel like your natural teeth, therefore the upkeep and care will be very similar to before your implants. Only regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing are required, just like your normal teeth and gums.

It is always best to avoid overly sticky or hard foods when caring for your dental implants and natural teeth, alike.

Which Patients are Candidates for Dental Implant Surgery?

The first step to determining your candidacy is to come to see us at Singing River Dentistry. Our professionals will conduct a thorough oral exam and develop a custom treatment plan for you. We understand that every patient is different, and we strive to meet your unique needs when assessing your case.

The ideal candidate for dental implants is in good overall health and will have a healthy jawbone and gum tissue.

Pre-existing medical conditions do not necessarily bar you from being a candidate for a dental implant procedure, but they may require that our team complete some sort of corrective procedures to prepare you for dental implants.
