Dentist reviewing a digital x-ray at Singing River Dentistry in Madison, AL Our team at Singing River Dentistry is continuously growing and learning the latest in dental care. We take great effort to stay up to date in continuing education and learning the latest in dental technology. We believe that this will enhance your time and care in our practice. We invite you to learn some of the tools that we use to help us provide you the very best in oral health care.

We have incorporated a wide range of technology to elevate the work we do. Some of these tools include:

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a device that we use to complete a couple of different tasks. It is about the size and shape of a toothbrush, and we may refer to it as a wand or I/O camera. We place this specialized camera inside your mouth to either livestream the visible tissue on a screen nearby or to create digital impressions of your oral cavity.

The intraoral camera is a great tool, and with it we can:

•  Create Digital Impressions: The intraoral camera can snap about 6000 images per second. As we move it around your oral cavity, it takes these images and then assembles them into a highly accurate 3D digital model. This digital mold can then be electronically sent to a dental lab to fabricate clear aligners including Invisalign, or to have a dental prosthetic created. Digital impressions are a much more clean and efficient system than traditional plaster molds.

•  Educate and Explain: We use the intraoral camera to show our patients live footage of varying areas in their mouth. We value the content we can show to educate and discuss areas of possible or pending concern or just areas of interest and why a treatment may be needed. We believe that when patients have a better understanding, they will want to make choices to improve their oral health.

Digital X-rays

Creating X-ray images with digital technology is a huge advancement in dental technology. Most dentists agree that X-ray images are the best tool we have, because it allows us to see problems that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. The increased value that digital technology has added is significant.

The differences between film and digital include:

•  Less Radiation: Though film X-rays produce an acceptable level of radiation, it was still enough that it made some patients nervous. Digital radiology, on average, uses less than ⅓ the radiation of traditional methods.

•  High Resolution Images: Digital X-ray images are produced with a much higher resolution. Instead of traditional slides, we are able to display large, detailed images on the screen near your chair. Our patients find that they are able to see and understand the images with much more understanding and we love that we are able to more clearly discuss and educate them while we talk.

•  Save and Share: Digital images are saved in your digital file, where they will never be misplaced or lost. This is a huge advantage over past paper files and tiny slides kept in drawers. Additionally, should you want a second opinion, or if we refer to you a specialist, we are able to share your X-ray images with a simple click of a button.

Same Day Crowns

Dental technology we use to create a same day dental crown at Singing River Dentistry in Tuscumbia, ALOur team at Singing River Dentistry understands how valuable your time is, which is why we offer same-day dental crowns. This means we can scan, prepare, and fabricate your restoration all in a single day.

Traditional dental crowns typically require multiple appointments for multiple procedures. The data we capture with our intraoral wand is wirelessly transferred to our computer system. We then use CAD/CAM software to design your crown “chairside” as you watch in real-time. Next, this information is sent to our milling unit, which transforms a single block of porcelain into your aesthetically-pleasing restoration.

CBCT Scan

A CBCT scan is a 3D digital X-ray known as a cone beam computed tomography. It is a full 3D X-ray image of the entire area, including the depth.

We use CBCT scanned images for:

•  Treatment Planning: CBCT scans can provide some valuable information for treatment planning. This may include creating a map for the surgical planning of a dental implant. In addition to seeing a full image, we are able to measure the bone mass and have a clearer understanding of the bone health.

•  Discovering Abnormalities: Looking at a CBCT scan, we can better view and measure abnormalities, including trauma, infection, and growths.

•  In-Depth Evaluation: A CBCT scan allows us a deeper view of your bone, tissues around the oral cavity, and nerve pathways. Viewing the underlying structure can be helpful in diagnosing and evaluating the oral cavity.

Sprint Ray 3D Printer

A 3D printer is capable of creating molds and models customized to you. With the Sprint Ray 3D Printer, we can create aligners, retainers, and other orthodontic devices or surgical guides specific to you in an efficient way.
