Teeth Cleaning Madison, AL
While regular brushing and flossing is recommended by dental professionals everywhere, including the ones here in our office, and can help reduce the likelihood of cavities, plaque bacteria can still build up on the teeth. This can lead to additional issues such as gingivitis and periodontal disease, the latter of which can lead to tooth loss and chronic bad breath.
You can help avoid these issues by making a regular dental cleaning a part of your dental maintenance plan. Teeth cleaning, the process of removing dental plaque from teeth, is a key component of maintaining good oral hygiene. Singing River Dentistry can help ensure the health and longevity of your teeth by providing a regular teeth cleaning.

What is a Teeth Cleaning?
Teeth cleaning is the process of removing tartar that can develop, often in spite of careful and regular brushing and flossing. This is especially a concern in areas of the mouth that are hard to reach during normal brushing. Professional cleaning, performed by a member of our team, involves tooth scaling and polishing, as well as debridement in cases of excessive tartar build-up. Various instruments or devices are used to loosen and remove these deposits from the teeth.
What Happens During a Teeth Cleaning?
Prior to the performance of the actual teeth cleaning, we will perform a thorough physical exam of the area, using a small mirror to check both your teeth and gums for any signs of concern. If issues of concern are detected, a member of our team will always make sure it is safe to proceed. Presuming no issues are discovered and it is safe to proceed, we will use a scaler to remove plaque and tartar build-up from around the gumline and between the teeth.
Once the teeth are completely tartar-free, we will brush them with a high-powered electric brush to ensure a deep clean and remove any excess tartar left behind. We will wrap up the procedure with an expert flossing and, in most cases, the application of a fluoride treatment. This is a protectant that helps fight against cavities for several months. We may also seal your teeth to prevent any bits of debris from falling into the small pits within your teeth.
Why Get a Teeth Cleaning?
In addition to prepping for the cleaning, the physical exam can reveal other issues detrimental to tooth health, such as overly vigorous or incorrectly performed brushing or flossing. This can cause injury to the gums or your enamel, and can lead to pain, damage to tooth enamel, gingivitis, and bleeding gums. These issues can be addressed during the exam and subsequent cleaning.
Follow-up
To ensure the best results, regular follow-ups, both for exams and regular cleanings, are encouraged. In between these visits and procedures, proper brushing and flossing should be practiced consistently. Should you have any questions, our team is available to instruct, and provide demonstration of, proper brushing and flossing techniques.
